CCC's Third Juried International Art Exhibition
On Thursday evening, February 19th at 6:00 p.m., the opening reception of Clatsop Community College's (CCC) third annual
international juried art exhibit, Au Naturel: The Nude in the 21st Century was held. Approximately 200 people and 15 of
the participating artists attended the event. This year's juror, internationally acclaimed Northwest artist Rick Bartow,
was present to speak about his selection process and to announce the awards. First Place was awarded to Michael Reedy of
Ann Arbor, Michigan for his striking mixed-media drawing entitled She Knows How to Use Them. Nicole Amore of Portland,
Oregon was awarded second place for her unusual oil and collaged paper on canvas piece called Out From Under. For Third
Place, the juror selected Lily Lily Rose, an elegant charcoal drawing by Matthew Davey of Indianapolis, Indiana. This year's
Purchase Award was granted to Joseph A. Miller of Buffalo, New York for his exquisite graphite drawing called Girl in Rising
Water, which will become part of the college's growing Permanent Collection. Bartow selected the work of two artists for
honorable mention: Falling Man, an oil with oil pastel painting by Diana Derby of Cheverly, Maryland and After the Argument,
a glazed watercolor and acrylic painting on rice paper by Kitty Paino of Astoria, Oregon. Elizabeth Malaska of Portland, Oregon,
was chosen for the Solo Show Award, and will be opening the CCC Art Center's 2009-2010 exhibition season with a one-person show
of her impressive large-scale acrylic, ink, and gouache paintings in October. The entire exhibit of over sixty works of art
